Overview:
In this half-day simulation-style workshop, participants have the opportunity to work in small groups on a sample project, picking up with the “risk brainstorm” activity introduced in the project management essentials class. With that first risk list as a starting point, we then proceed with skill practice on the following tasks:
- Prioritization of the risks based on the ones from the risk brainstorm exercise
- Discovery of the risks we don’t quite understand
- Discussion around the risks where we don’t have alignment or agreement
- Talking about quantitative risk analysis when possible
- Creating solution options for the top priority risks
- Assigning risk owners, and ensuring buy-in to that role
- Identifying and naming risk triggers
Each simulation includes a table-based workshop, a debrief and discussion including a chance to reflect on how to apply the learnings from the situation to the current and future projects on your radar.
Objectives:
By attending this course, participants will:
- Practice stating, evaluating, and prioritizing risks
- Practice having uncomfortable conversations around risk
- Practice identifying risk owners, risk triggers, risk categories, and multiple risk responses
- Identify actionable ways to improving risk management on current and future projects
